COMMISSIONS

VISUALISATIONS

visuali

Most significant environmental developments require going through planning processes. I work with a project management team to ‘visualise’ wind turbines where they have been planned in the landscapes. These are done to national planning and visualisation standards.

Other visualisations have been commissioned to examine the impact of large scale developments in the rural landscape. The emphasis of this work is on ‘green projects’. Many of my mapping projects have also involved reconstructions and visualisations of lost landscapes and buildings, techniques that can be applied to relevant ‘planning’ processes such as ‘visualisations’ of proposed buildings or developments.

AERIAL SURVEYS

In my degree thesis in 1984 I argued that it would be possible one day to take aerial photographs and decipher hidden archaeology on the ground not visible to the human eye or on archive photographs. With the advent of Digital Photography this is now possible and has opened Aerial Photography to all manner of practical uses. The examples above shows how greatly exaggerating the slightest deviation in colour and contrast can reveal what lies beneath the surface or monitor pollution. These techniques can also be used to re-evaluate old aerial photographs and proved very useful during the ROMAN ROAD PROJECT (see ‘TRAVELOGUES’).

PROMOTIONAL WORK

marketing

A series of banners have been produced to market and promote Welsh towns as shopping destinations for tourists and visitors. One such project, to promote Llanberis, the village at the foot of Snowdon, was commissioned in 2010. In this case, a long banner design was developed as a template for the whole project and adapted as street banners as well as appearing in two tourist leaflets and a website. Other similar promotional work has been undertaken as well as designing posters for exhibitions and theatrical productions.
